Discovering Xylitol - Sugar Substitute with Dental Health Benefits #Giveaway

I have been enjoying the chance to try out several different products via Tomoson, including a Pet Grooming Brush, Candles, and a Citrus Squeezer to name a few. Today I got the chance to discover Xylitol which is an all natural sugar substitute derived from the birch tree.

There are tons of resources out there to learn more about Xylitol - on Epic Dental I found this:
Xylitol is not a chemical or a drug. It is an all-natural sweetener found in many fruits and vegetables, including raspberries and plums. It's completely natural and is even produced by the human body during normal metabolism.
Experts consider it a healthy alternative to sugar and artificial sweeteners.
In fact, xylitol tastes and looks like sugar. German chemists discovered the naturally occurring sugar in the late 19th century in birch tree bark, and since then, it’s also been naturally found in fruits and vegetables.
According to Morning Pep, here is additional information about this particular Xylitol product:
  • The Original Birch Xylitol, Made in USA
  • Perfect For Coffee, Tea, Cereal, And Baking
  • Looks And Tastes Like Sugar With No Aftertaste and 40% fewer calories than sugar
  • Kosher And Free Of GMO, Corn, Wheat, Gluten, Soy and Dairy
  • Safe For Diabetics, Low Calorie, Low carb, Low Glycemic Index
Everything I can find about Xylitol specifically refers to the dental / oral health benefits it contains. It can actually reduce the risk of tooth decay... this in a sweetener! That is amazing to me.

I tested out Xylitol in my coffee and was amazed that the texture is identical to sugar - all of the substitutes I am used to are powdery (I typically use Splenda for my coffee and tea). The flavor was great - no aftertaste at all (which I am used to with the sugar substitutes I use). I am looking forward to baking with the Xylitol next to see how that goes! Though, based on the reviews I've found, it should work great with no notable difference.

If you would like your chance to receive your own free bag of Xylitol from Morning Pep, make sure to enter the Giveaway below!

  1. I'd love to try it for my husband who is a newly diagnosed diabetic. Thanks for doing the giveaway.

  2. I am fairly new to xylitol, but have been experimenting with it for my husband who is diabetic. Since we use so much sugar substitute, I am trying to use more natural sources such as this and stevia.

    1. That is awesome! I'd never heard of it before I was offered this chance to test it out, it's always great to learn about natural substitutes like this one.
