Chicken Shawarma Wrap Sandwiches

This is a yummy sandwich that comes together in no time! Just give the chicken a little bit of time to soak in that marinade to infuse extra moisture and flavor, grill or pan cook the chicken up and voila!

There's something about the warmly spiced chicken and cool tzatziki sauce that just makes my mouth and stomach happy!

I also love cucumbers in sandwiches, and this sandwich is loaded with fresh and cool veggies. It makes this the most perfect summery sandwich. Grill up that chicken instead of pan-searing it if you have the time - and stuff your favorite wrap / pita full of lots of veggies, warm chicken, and cool sauce!

Chicken Shawarma Wrap Sandwiches

Ingredients

Marinade
1 lb boneless skinless chicken breast (sliced into thin strips)
1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
1 TBS garlic, minced (jarred)
1 TBS lemon juice
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground cloves

Yogurt Sauce
1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
1/2 tsp lemon juice
1/8 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp minced garlic (jarred)
1/4 tsp dried dill
1/8 tsp salt

Sandwich
4 pita, naan, or flatbread
1/2 head romaine lettuce, shredded
1 medium cucumber, diced or thinly sliced
2 medium roma tomatoes, diced or thinly sliced

Directions
  1. Combine all marinade ingredients in a resealable tupperware or Ziploc bag, shake until ingredients are evenly combined and chicken is well coated. Refrigerate at least 4 hours, up to overnight.
  2. When you are ready to make the sandwiches, heat about 1 TBS olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. When oil is hot, add the marinated chicken, and sear until golden brown on both sides and cooked through (about 8-10 minutes depending on thickness of the chicken pieces).
  3. While the chicken is cooking, combine the yogurt sauce ingredients in a bowl or small resealable container, stir well to blend. Taste and adjust seasonings if desired.
  4. Once chicken is cooked, and sauce is prepared, assemble sandwiches by dividing meat, lettuce, cucumber, and tomatoes between your pita, naan, or flatbread. Add a generous smear of the yogurt sauce (to your taste preference).
