Homemade Spaghetti Sauce

This is a recipe from my mother in law that I've used a few times over the years. I had mostly forgotten about it until she fixed it while we were visiting for Christmas. It simmered on the stove for hours and the whole house smelled SO GOOD!! We decided to have lasagna for dinner and I thought it would be perfect for that!

It's very simple and completely adjustable to your taste preferences. Just tweak the seasonings however you'd like them. I overdid the garlic salt a little bit this last time, but Kenneth and Kent didn't think it was salty. I'd add more garlic powder and less garlic salt next time.

We used this for a small pan of lasagna and a small pan of stuffed shells. Both came out great!!

Homemade Spaghetti Sauce

Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1/2 cup finely diced onion
1 can whole tomatoes, dice tomatoes with kitchen shears or use 1 can diced tomatoes
2 16-oz cans tomato sauce
3 cloves garlic, chopped
1 tsp Italian Seasoning
1 tsp oregano
Salt and pepper to taste
(add additional seasonings as desired - more Italian seasoning, garlic salt, etc.)

Directions
Brown and drain hamburger meat. Add remaining ingredients and simmer over low heat for 20-30 minutes. (You can simmer for longer if desired).

  1. I'm excited to try it. I've only bothered with homemade sauce a handful of times and no one in the house would've preferred mine over a jar :(

  2. I hope it turns out great for you too! It's so easy to tweak to your personal tastes with whichever seasonings you want to add. If you like a little bit of a sweeter sauce you can put in a little bit of sugar too. :)
