Homemade Tartar Sauce

If you, like me, want to enjoy some delicious fish sticks with tartar sauce, but do not have tartar sauce in your house - this is a fantastic homemade version that we LOVED! I will absolutely make this one again anytime we need tartar sauce. It is creamy, tangy, perfectly seasoned and worked just right with our lunch.

I really can't imagine using the jarred stuff after tasting this - it comes together SUPER quickly and easily, you can tweak the seasonings and add-ins to your personal taste and texture preferences and it's ready in a flash!

The original recipe recommends waiting at least an hour after combining to allow the ingredients to meld, but we ate this about 20 minutes after blending and the flavors were really nice. I also made a half batch instead of the full amount (the recipe below is for a full batch), since I only wanted enough for lunch and didn't want to have a lot leftover.

Homemade Tartar Sauce from This Silly Girl's Life

Ingredients
1 cup mayonnaise
⅓ cup dill pickle relish
1/2 - 1 TBS pickle juice
¼ tsp garlic powder
¼ tsp onion powder
salt and pepper to taste

Directions
  1. Combine mayonnaise, relish, garlic powder, and salt and pepper to taste in a resealable container. If you want the sauce thick, don't add the pickle juice, but for a little extra zip and a thinner sauce, add pickle juice to taste.
  2. Cover and refrigerate for an hour prior to serving.
