Your pregnancy: 10 weeks

LOVE our "roll-over" days and the beautiful weekly e-mails from Baby Center!!

How your baby's growing:
Though he's barely the size of a kumquat — a little over an inch or so long, crown to bottom — and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce, your baby has now completed the most critical portion of his development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in his body rapidly grow and mature.

He's swallowing fluid and kicking up a storm. Vital organs — including his kidneys, intestines, brain, and liver (now making red blood cells in place of the disappearing yolk sac) — are in place and starting to function, though they'll continue to develop throughout your pregnancy.

If you could take a peek inside your womb, you'd spot minute details, like tiny nails forming on fingers and toes (no more webbing) and peach-fuzz hair beginning to grow on tender skin.

In other developments: Your baby's limbs can bend now. His hands are flexed at the wrist and meet over his heart, and his feet may be long enough to meet in front of his body. The outline of his spine is clearly visible through translucent skin, and spinal nerves are beginning to stretch out from his spinal cord. Your baby's forehead temporarily bulges with his developing brain and sits very high on his head, which measures half the length of his body. From crown to rump, he's about 1 1/4 inches long. In the coming weeks, your baby will again double in size — to nearly 3 inches.

So far so good today, only mild nausea, barely even noticeable! I have to pee a lot though. The BIGGEST and most EXCITING update I have is that last night I was able to pick up the baby's heartbeat on the doppler I bought! It was the first time I was able to HEAR it!! The doppler has showed a reading higher then my own heart rate each time I've tried it (about once or twice a week since I got it) but last night I heard the baby!! My face lit up SO huge and I was SOOO excited!! Such a beautiful, beautiful sound!! I could have sat and listened to that ALL night! But I made it brief. I always wonder if those things are noisy to the baby's little ears so I try not to do it that often or for too long. I will check again next Wednesday before our u/s appointment for some extra reassurance before seeing the baby on the u/s screen again. :)

I also had SUPER crazy weird dreams last night!! One part I switched bodies with my son, another part I was at some coliseum thing and the animals were the size of skyscrapers and would stick their giant heads into the stands and bellow and they were FREAKING me out! Then there was a part where I woke up outside on the ground and Johnny Depp was there and we were covered in blown up animal pieces... umm.. yeah, that one was the most disturbing I think... Very odd, very bright, and very active dreams! It was nice to know I had some REM sleep though! I felt much more alert this morning then I have in the past few days.

Now we're getting ready to head out to Ray's on the River for our very nice Admin Professionals lunch out and I'm super excited!! Yummy!! :)

This evening is the OB class which will be good too - I'm sure I'll get some good information. :)

  1. I had crazy dreams when I was pregnant too! It truly is amazing when you think about how this new little person is coming into existence.
