Your pregnancy: 24 weeks

Woo-hoo!! 24 weeks today!! Happy dancing! :)

I'm excited to reach this milestone, and am just STUNNED to think we're within 3 months of being full term and counting down to Miss S's arrival!! WOW!!!

How your baby's growing:

Your baby's growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts him at just over a pound. Since he's almost a foot long (picture an ear of corn), he cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but his body is filling out proportionally and he'll soon start to plump up. His brain is also growing quickly now, and his taste buds are continuing to develop. His lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.
I was having BIG time cravings yesterday for fast food of some sort, all morning I craved Chick Fil A, all the way home I craved french fries and diet coke and a Frosty!! But, I decided to behave myself and not totally blow my calorie count for the day. So I waited 'til I got home, and we decided to order pizza, so I looked up the calories ahead of time and ordered a Thin Crust Tomato, Chicken, Spinach Alfredo pizza from Papa Johns. I enjoyed 2 delicious slices and when I got hungry a little later I made myself a spinach salad with lots of fresh veggies and some of my favorite light Catalina dressing and stayed within my calorie goal range for the day so I was happy!

I've been really hungry all day today so far, so I think its just one of those "growing" periods or something - it seems to happen about once a month or so where I'm just extra hungry and get a lot of cravings for a couple days. I am planning on having a yummy veggie omelet for tonight, but I realize I may be the only one who will eat the pizza I chose, so I may end up having leftovers depending on what the guys want to do tonight.

I'm glad tomorrow is Friday and Kent and I get a weekend to chill and hang out some and have some fun too! We're going to the pool and running to the mall for some retail therapy tomorrow and I think I'm going to save the Tellus Science Museum for the next weekend so we can have Sunday off. Although I'm taking Monday off for dentist appointments and back to school shopping, so if we're up to it we might squeeze that in on Sunday too but I don't want to over-do it and be burnt out the rest of the week.

I have to pick up a few groceries this evening on the way home, more fruits and veggies!! We go through them so quickly now! It's great. :) I signed up for the local Farmer Market baskets again and will get my first one next Tuesday, so I'll start coordinating around those and most likely make that a weekly thing and just supplement as needed with grocery shopping maybe Wednesday or Thursday each week. Hopefully it will help me get into a better shopping routine - some weeks I've had to stop twice in a week to pick up little things, usually just a couple items, but hopefully as time goes on I'll get a better handle on meal planning and shopping/preparing for it. You just can't buy TOO far in advance when so much of it is produce!

I've had some bad leg cramps the previous 2 days and the heartburn continues to come and go and I'm staying on the zantac and pop a couple tums when the ache gets too bad. Those are my only "complaints" though - no real noticeable swelling in my ankles/feet the last couple days which is nice!

I think a good soak in the tub is in order for tomorrow night perhaps, seems like a good way to wrap up the week! :)

Your pregnancy: 23 weeks

Happy week 23 to us!! :) Just one more week and July will be OVER and we'll be on to August!! YAY! I'm so excited! I love watching the days and weeks tick by and my excitement for November and getting to meet Miss "S" just grows and grows as does my belly and her wiggly antics! :) I am definitely feeling stronger movements more frequently, harder bumps and nudges and rolls. It's so exciting to think of all the growing she's doing!

How your baby's growing:

Turn on the radio and sway to the music. With her sense of movement well developed by now, your baby can feel you dance. And now that she's more than 11 inches long and weighs just over a pound (about as much as a large mango), you may be able to see her squirm underneath your clothes. Blood vessels in her lungs are developing to prepare for breathing, and the sounds that your baby's increasingly keen ears pick up are preparing her for entry into the outside world. Loud noises that become familiar now — such as your dog barking or the roar of the vacuum cleaner — probably won't faze her when she hears them outside the womb.
I've been noticing some swelling in my feet and ankles, not bad yet, but definitely visible after a long day. I am trying to keep my water intake up and keep pushing fluids to help with it so it won't get much worse and I've been taking Zantac in the evenings to help the ever present heartburn that doesn't seem to want to go away yet. I've been taking Zantac for about 3 or 4 days now and I still get some pretty painful spells, so I definitely am going to stick with it for awhile and see if it will ever completely go away (fingers crossed)!

Kent was at his great-grandmother's the last 2 nights, so I met Kenneth for a quick date night last night at the movie theater and we went and saw the new Twilight movie! :) I know he didn't really want to go see it, so I think it was pretty sweet of him to take me and I even caught him laughing and smiling at quite a bit of the dialogue. :) The skies opened up RIGHT when I was getting close to the theater and it was pouring buckets of water when I had to run from the car to the theater and we both were DRENCHED! It stopped by the time we came back out thankfully, but I was happy to get home and change out of my damp clothes!!

I'm glad tomorrow is Friday and am looking forward to a peaceful but hopefully productive weekend! Going to spend some time going through "stuff" and listing a few things on Craigslist, etc. and hopefully starting to get our basement cleared out a bit!

I am so excited to see the days tick by and watch those "days left 'til baby's arrival" creep closer and closer to double digits!! ACK!! We watched The Time Traveler's Wife over the weekend and I had such a strong surge of emotion watching the delivery scene - such a joy and anticipation for sharing that moment with my IPs and getting to see them with baby "S"! I honestly can't wait!! I am so happy for each healthy day of this pregnancy, each day Miss "S" gets to gestate and grow and become stronger and prepare for her entry into this world. I pray it will be a beautiful experience for us all and can't wait to see her in her parent's arms!!
I've been having a lot of strong feelings of what I want to do "next" too and think I'm excited about the future as much as I am about delivery and seeing "S" with L&N. I am feeling a little more settled into the what's coming, 2 strong possibilities and am excited about both. Kenneth and I spent some time on Kennesaw State University's website this weekend looking at the nursing program pre-requisites and talking some of the details of what I would actually need to do to prepare for that to be a reality. The other big option is that I have had it on my heart for a LONG time to look into being a contractor overseas for a year in some form of an administrative roll. I've known 2 people personally who've done it and I know I will never join the military and go and have the experiences that Kenneth has, but there is a HUGE part of me that longs for an experience like that. Kenneth has a LOT of reservations about the idea of me going - but I think if I actually looked into it seriously and found a good company at a location that he was comfortable with he might be more open to it. I know it's kind of "out there", especially as a mom and wife to want to go do that. But its an experience that I have long thought about and wondered about... how many times in your life do you even get a chance to think about doing something like that? No it wouldn't be glamorous or exciting (well hopefully not too exciting), but it would be a unique life experience and I think I need something like that. Something out of "my ordinary"... something a little bigger than me.

So, that's been on my mind a lot lately and I've been trying to figure out how to look into it a little more. Essentially I want to either gear up for that, or gear up for school and one more surrogacy sometime next year. I am feeling pretty settled in my heart about those options. Things can change of course, and they are drastically different paths so we'll see where life takes us all!

In the mean time, I am enjoying each day I get with Miss "S" - each little nudge, bump and roll of which there have been a lot more lately which I'm excited about! I took a little bit of video over the weekend and sent a short clip of my belly "dancing" for my IPs - hopefully they will enjoy seeing her movements as much as I enjoy them! :)

The heartburn hasn't gone away and has been more frequent and was fairly painful yesterday, so I caved and am going to start taking Zantac every evening and pray within a week or so I feel improvement. This constant achy/burning sensation up my chest is unsettling and painful!

I can't believe we're another week into July - just 2 weeks left in this month! WOW!!

Your pregnancy: 22 weeks

How your baby's growing:

At 11 inches (the length of a spaghetti squash) and almost 1 pound, your baby is starting to look like a miniature newborn. His lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and he's even developing tiny tooth buds beneath his gums. His eyes have formed, but his irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment. If you could see inside your womb, you'd be able to spot the fine hair (lanugo) that covers his body and the deep wrinkles on his skin, which he'll sport until he adds a padding of fat to fill them in. Inside his belly, his pancreas — essential for the production of some important hormones — is developing steadily.
Yay for baby Spaghetti Squash! Miss "S" is doing fantastic! The appointment yesterday was great. I got there a few minutes early and then my IM "L" walked in (bearing super yummy DQ icy slushies!) and not a minute or two later they called us on back! We went straight back for our ultrasound first. The tech was super nice and once we explained who was who she was all about printing out TONS of pictures for us to both have! First she did the anatomy scan and we got to see the hearts 4 chambers, the 3 vessels of the umbilical cord, both the kidneys, the stomach, all the little toes on her cute feet, lots of measurements of the femur bone, etc. Once she'd taken all the measurements we moved onto the 3-D fun stuff! Lots of fantastic shots of Miss S opening her mouth, with her arm up over her head, cute pouty lips. Super cuteness! :) She's measuring just a little ahead of her gestational age, in the 66th percentile and her heart rate was a nice steady 150 bpm.

Here she is!!

I was really happy to hear everything looks good and normal and healthy for her. We went out to the waiting room and waited a little while to be called back for the midwife check. I peed in a cup, stood on a scale and had my b/p checked then went back to the room. It was a very brief appointment! The midwife and I talked about my only two minor complaints, leg cramps and the most recent occassional heartburn I've been getting and she gave me some more suggestions and meds I can take for the heartburn (though I'd really rather not) and then pretty much sent us on our way! That was that! Our next appointment is scheduled for August 12th at 26 weeks.
Tonight I get to meet up with a good friend I met through SMO for dinner at Cracker Barrel and I can't wait!! I haven't seen her in ages plus I love Cracker Barrel - what could be better?!! I think the boys are going to order pizza - glad to know they won't starve while I'm away! :D
I'm going to pick up a lot of maternity clothes tomorrow from someone I found on Craigslist which I'm excited about - I was starting to get tired of wearing the same few pieces I have over and over. I had forgotten how much I'd sold or returned after my last pregnancy - there was only really the stuff Vicki bought for me awhile back! So it will be nice to supplement the wardrobe because I'm definitely at the point where I need to be wearing maternity! I've squeezed into a few of my skirts and tops every now and then, but they're usually fairly uncomfortable!
Looking forward to a quiet weekend with the boys and hoping we finally can get out and see a movie together this weekend! :)

Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow!! Yay for our appointment and ultrasound tomorrow and 22 weeks! I'm SO excited!!

I had a "hungry" day yesterday and ate extra snacks at work. It was weird, it just sort of hit me in the afternoon. My stomach grumbled, water wasn't helping and I just wanted to EAT. So I figured I probably should eat! We had a really good filling dinner which helped tide me over for the evening, once I got home. We had broiled BBQ pork chops, brown rice, carrots and green beans. Yummy!

I have started looking at maternity lots on e-bay and on SMO - I've decided I really need to supplement the wardrobe I have as it's going to get really boring really fast since I really only have a few shirts in each sleeve length and only a couple pair of slacks I can wear to work. I have a couple dresses too which I like but I usually only wear one of those per week. Today I actually went with all non-maternity clothes. I still have some skirts and my dresses will mostly still fit ok. However, the cute stretchy tank top that normally sits just fine at my waist keeps trying to hike up anytime I stand or move so I have to keep pulling it back down. This is why I should be wearing a maternity top!! D'oh! :)

Ok, time to go get busy and distracted so the day will FLY by! :)

All is going well! We had a pretty good weekend - though Kenneth did something funny to his shoulder and was in quite a bit of pain Saturday and Sunday. So we stayed home most of the weekend and took it easy so he could rest and try to heal a little. Poor guy! He was feeling better some by Sunday, but we still kept the injured area covered in icy hot and he stayed on IBprofen all day and held his arm funny anytime he stood up. I hope he's feeling better today since he had to drive to school...!

So, since we took it easy we didn't get to go see a movie, but we did get a lot of little things done around the house and started on a few organizational projects. Kent has been a  HUGE help!

I've been sticking to my BabyFit meal plan and really enjoying it! I still can't believe all the tuppeware I go through everyday - but its been SO great to have it all planned out and ready to go each morning when I leave for work. And Kent is enjoying the meal plan now too, and he seems to like being able to check the fridge at anytime to see what's coming up. He really like the baked potato lunch last week and has enjoyed the sandwiches and even one of the two salads so far. Today was grilled cheese and tomato soup - so I'm pretty sure that will go over well with him too. :)

I stayed very satisfied on my meals over the weekend and didn't even eat my snacks. It's nice to not feel hungry all the time and to know what's coming next. I think having a schedule has helped with the head hunger too, since I know what's coming and when to expect it. I can't imagine not sticking to a plan like this after doing it for the last 3 weeks or so - its simplified a lot of things and I know I'm eating so much better. I do end up shopping a lot more - twice a week sometimes, usually one quick trip and one "bigger" trip to re-load on fruits and veggies and odds and ends. Mostly fruits and veggies though! :)

We had super yummy Turkey Burgers over the weekend (it's actually a P90X recipe I haven't used in awhile, but I remembered really enjoying it so I thought we'd pull it out). P90X actually had a bunch of great recipes that would work well on this plan, since they are generally high protein and low fat and include some sort of whole grain/fresh fruit/veggie, etc. Their Island Pork Tenderloin Salad is SO good! I'll have to pull that recipe out and fix that.

One of the treat items built into the menu plan has been chocolate cupcakes and I've been buying Hostess Cupcakes, but I've been thinking about baking my own and freezing them and seeing how they do thawed - that would probably be a lot better for us and convenient to be able to do myself! I have a Chocolate Snack Cake recipe from Highschool I used to make all the time that I think would work great! :)

Yesterday I got out of the house by myself for a little and got to go have a spa pedicure which was HEAVEN! It felt SO good to get a little pampering in, just for me, and just for fun! Then I got some grocery shopping done, picked up a coffee at Starbucks for Kenneth and headed home. It was nice to have a little "mommy" time out. I haven't done that for awhile, it's refreshing! :)

Ok, enough of my rambling! Countdown to Thursdays appointment - can't wait! :)

Your pregnancy: 21 weeks

How your baby's growing:

Your baby now weighs about three-quarters of a pound and is approximately 10 1/2 inches long — the length of a carrot. You may soon feel like she's practicing martial arts as her initial fluttering movements turn into full-fledged kicks and nudges. You may also discover a pattern to her activity as you get to know her better. In other developments, your baby's eyebrows and lids are present now, and if you're having a girl, her vagina has begun to form as well.

Woo hoo!! Another week! :) Other than some persistent acne that doesn't ever want to fully go away and what feels like some heartburn this week I'm feeling really good and really enjoying how much stronger baby's movements have gotten!

I can't wait for our next ultrasound and getting to see her little face and see how much she's grown! Yay! :)

I'm still pretty tired, but glad the weekend is almost here so I can try to catch up a little. I think a bubble bath and a nap are in order. We're going to try to get out and see the newest Twilight movie at some point too. We tried to go on Monday, but it was really crowded even for the very first showing of the day already, and Kenneth isn't interested in going to a crowded theater - takes the fun out of it! So, we might try again this weekend and see if it's less busy.

I need to stop by the grocery store on my way home tonight - it's amazing how quickly we're going through fruits and veggies following this meal plan; it's great though! Nothing is getting wasted which is nice, and I know I'm getting good stuff in every day!

It's another busy day, so I will get back to it but had to stop in and make my official 21 week post! I took belly pictures last week but wasn't really happy with them, I'm going to try again today and see if I get one I like enough to post. :)

Oops! Missed the 20 week post!! (20w6d today)

It's been a hectic but good week! :) I had Friday the 2nd off as a vacation day. Kent and I had dentist appointments in the morning and we got some work done around the house that afternoon. The next morning we were busy packing up to leave for Ken & Donna's (Kenneth's parent's) and left the house around 10:30 am. We grabbed lunch at Shane's Rib Shack on the way to their place and got there I think around 1:00. We had a nice afternoon, spent some time at the pool (yay for some SUN!!) and that evening we went and saw fireworks! They were beautiful and baby "S" was really moving and grooving in my belly! It was probably the most I'd seen her moving from the outside up to that point. Last night I got some GREAT movement from her too! It is SO cool to be able to see her movements now, I am always so fascinated watching her make my belly move and wiggle! :)

We all enjoyed breakfast and lunch together on Sunday and then we headed out around 1:30 to make the long drive home. It was a short visit, but it was a lot of fun! We played games and Kent discovered Rumikub and Chinese Checkers. So on Monday we ran some errands and picked up both games at Target - they're great for us since 2 or 3 people can play! :)

I jumped back on my babyfit meal plan once we got home and am doing well again. I'm up a total of about 14 pounds now and will be 21 weeks tomorrow. I am ok with that, and most importantly having the meal plan to follow I feel very good about what I'm taking in and knowing baby "S" is getting exactly what she needs to grow healthy and strong! :)

I don't think we have any plans for this weekend, and then next week is our ultrasound and doctor appointment!! Yay!! I'm hoping maybe my IM will get to see and/or feel some of baby's movements!! I'll have to try to record them for her too.

So here is the 20 week Baby Center info (better late than never!)

How your baby's growing:

Your baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. He's also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel — the length of a banana. (For the first 20 weeks, when a baby's legs are curled up against his torso and hard to measure, measurements are taken from the top of his head to his bottom — the "crown to rump" measurement. After 20 weeks, he's measured from head to toe.)

He's swallowing more these days, which is good practice for his digestive system. He's also producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance will accumulate in his bowels, and you'll see it in his first soiled diaper (some babies pass meconium in the womb or during delivery).
