This was a delicious hot chocolate recipe! It makes enough for one large cup, or split into two smaller mugs and share. The flavor was just lightly pepperminty and wonderfully full of chocolate. Adding whipped cream and sprinkles was a beautiful touch and it adds extra texture and creaminess.
Ingredients
1 cup milk (whole or 2% are best)
1/4 cup heavy cream
1 tablespoons granulated sugar (more to taste)
pinch kosher salt
1/2 cup chocolate chips (I used bittersweet, use milk or semi-sweet if preferred)
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon peppermint extract
whipped cream, marshmallows, sprinkles, and/or crushed candy canes (for garnish)
Directions
- In a small saucepan, combine the milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar. Heat over medium heat, whisking to blend ingredients. Add the pinch of salt and blend. When it begins to bubble gently around the edges (do not allow it to come to a full boil), remove from heat and stir in the chocolate chips, whisking until well melted and blended into the liquid.
- Add in the extracts and blend gently. Taste, adjust the sugar and / or extracts if needed.
- Top with your preferred items - whipped cream, sprinkles, crushed candy canes, etc.!
