11 weeks and our ultrasound! :)

Your pregnancy: 11 weeks

How your baby's growing:
Your baby, just over 1 1/2 inches long and about the size of a fig, is now almost fully formed. Her hands will soon open and close into fists, tiny tooth buds are beginning to appear under her gums, and some of her bones are beginning to harden.

She's already busy kicking and stretching, and her tiny movements are so effortless they look like water ballet. These movements will become more frequent as her body grows and becomes more developed and functional. You won't feel your baby's acrobatics for another month or two — nor will you notice the hiccupping that may be happening now that her diaphragm is forming.

L and I met at RBA this morning at 9:00 for our final ultrasound with them! Yep, today was graduation! Bittersweet - they have been FANTASTIC and I have LOVED working with them!! Dr. Kort is the best RE, it has been such a pleasure to work with him and his team.

The ultrasound went GREAT!! I was all nervous before hand, as per my usual, but baby bean looked just perfect. Measuring RIGHT on track, and the tech got some gorgeous shots of the heart, spine, legs and feet. She tried to peek between the legs and at first it looked like BOY!! Like, OBVIOUSLY boy!! But she couldn't duplicate that shot and then it was looking like a girl! So, my IP's will have to wait a little while longer to find out!! They can't wait to know!

The tech even got an incredible 3-D shot of the baby from the side - just precious to see such intricate details on such a tiny little person... it is AMAZING how much they are developed already!

I am feeling so relieved to know everything is going well with the baby and the pregnancy so far and now I can relax and look forward to my weekend away! :)

10w6d - ultrasound tomorrow!

I am exhausted and woke up with a low grade fever again this morning. I don't like feeling like this and it makes me nervous and I am glad we have an ultrasound tomorrow so I can see that baby is ok. I am sure it's just my body having some issues, but I worry about the baby whenever something is off with me. I tried to listen in this morning with the doppler and couldn't find the right spot which didn't make me very happy either. The doppler picked up a heart rate higher than mine several times, but I couldn't "hear" the baby myself. I will try again sometime today - I want that reassurance that everything is fine, especially before we go in for ultrasound tomorrow! I think part of the nervousness is having come off progesterone now, I just want to KNOW everything is fine and I can go on my weekend trip with nothing to worry about!! :)

I am so glad its almost Thursday and then I am done with work for the week and get to go take it totally easy for a couple days. I can't wait to sleep in and let someone else cook me yummy food and spend lazy days at the pool and with the horses.

Hoping today passes quickly and uneventfully and I can go home and crash a little this afternoon! We were all tired and went to bed early last night, which was nice, but I didn't sleep well at all and tossed and turned a lot and got up twice to use the bathroom. I couldn't find a good temperature - I was too hot or too cold and kept fidgeting with the covers. A nap sounds realllly good!

Monday, April 26, 2010

It was a weird sort of weekend. I felt really, really "off" all weekend and that made it pretty hard to have any sort of "get up and go" at ALL! I had some crampiness late last week on a couple different days which dind't REALLY worry me, but following that with feeling sick most of the weekend did. I had an off and on low grade temp, a lot of stomach upset, and felt very physically drained along with quite a bit of light headedness. Still not sure what was really going on, but I seem to be doing ok so far today and I got to start my day by listening to the baby's heartbeat on my doppler so that was VERY reassuring that s/he is doing JUST fine regardless of whatever is going on with me!! :)

I am glad we have our ultrasound coming up this Thursday! Can't WAIT to see how the little bean is growing and to see my IPs again too! :)

So in any event, we took it pretty easy on Saturday, I slept in really late, but eventually we did decide to at least get one "to-do" item crossed off the never ending list and we got Kent's room re-done. We had him take all of the toys he doesn't play with anymore down stairs, and then we disassembled his bunkbed and completely re-arranged his room! It is much more a "big boy" room now with the bed on the ground level and more organized/cleaned out with all the purging we did. It looks much better and he is happy with it!! :) We realized on Sunday that the only potential problem is now Sadie (our Rottweiler who sleeps in his room can now reach his face to lick him and wake him up in the mornings)! :D I was glad we got something accomplished!

Sunday was a pretty laid back day. I had major stomach upset all night long that kept me up - Kenneth ended up running to the store at 6:00am to get me some Mylanta to see if that would help. It did, thankfully, and I was able to get some sleep. It was a pretty day and we went to lunch at Stevi B's (I had been craving the cinnamon apple dessert pizza!) and went to Sam's Club to stock up on a few things. I napped for a little while when we got home and we spent most of the evening watching movies and a couple TV shows. Kenneth and I made some YUMMY tacos for dinner and not long after that it was bed time! I love doing "double decker" tacos - I use the small flour tortillas along with the little hard taco shells together. I heat them both, then put some Queso cheese sauce on the flour taco shell and wrap that around the crunchy taco shell and then fill it up with meat, cheese, sour cream, lettuce, tomato and salsa! YUMMY!! I can't wait for some leftovers tonight! :)

Time to get busy and get some things accomplished and hope the day flys by!!

Annie's Fruit Salsa and Cinnamon Chips

Had to share this one!! Sooo yummy. Made it last night after I got home from the OB Class (which was redundant, but had some good information and quick reference guides).

YUMMY!! Stayed up way too late making batches of the chips, but they are super tasty. This was definitely labor intensive with all the cutting of the fruit and then several rounds of coating chips and baking them, but a great treat!!

I suffered an INCREDIBLY painful foot cramp about 20 minutes before being done with everything last night that had me bawling like a baby for about 10 minutes. That totally stunk, I chugged water, took 2 calcium pills and massaged the holy heck out of my foot. It was a LONG cramp and it hurt BAD. That's the second massively painful one I've gotten since getting pregnant. I am going to be MUCH more conscientious about taking my potassium and calcium supplements every day and PRAY they keep those evil things at bay... OUCH!!

I altered it a tiny bit so I'm posting it the way I made it.

Annie's Fruit Salsa and Cinnamon Chips slightly adapted from Ann Page on

2 kiwis, peeled and diced
2 Fuji apples - peeled, cored and diced
8-oz raspberries
1 lb strawberries, diced
1 TBS white sugar
1/2 TBS brown sugar
3 TBS fruit preserves, any flavor (I used blackberry seedless jam)

10 (10-inch) flour tortillas
butter flavored cooking spray
2 cups cinnamon sugar (1 tsp cinnamon per cup of sugar)

  1. In a large bowl, thoroughly mix kiwis, apples, raspberries, strawberries, white sugar, brown sugar and fruit preserves. Cover and chill in the refrigerator at least 15 minutes.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  3. Coat both sides of each flour tortilla with butter flavored cooking spray. Stack them in groups of 4 and cut into 6 wedges using a pizza cutter. Put cinnamon sugar in a bowl or pie plate and gently coat both sides of the wedges (1 or 2 at a time). Place them on a cookie sheet.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven 8 to 10 minutes. Repeat with any remaining tortilla wedges. Allow to cool approximately 15 minutes (they will still be pliable when they come out of the oven, they will harden as they cool). Serve with chilled fruit mixture.

Your pregnancy: 10 weeks

LOVE our "roll-over" days and the beautiful weekly e-mails from Baby Center!!

How your baby's growing:
Though he's barely the size of a kumquat — a little over an inch or so long, crown to bottom — and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce, your baby has now completed the most critical portion of his development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in his body rapidly grow and mature.

He's swallowing fluid and kicking up a storm. Vital organs — including his kidneys, intestines, brain, and liver (now making red blood cells in place of the disappearing yolk sac) — are in place and starting to function, though they'll continue to develop throughout your pregnancy.

If you could take a peek inside your womb, you'd spot minute details, like tiny nails forming on fingers and toes (no more webbing) and peach-fuzz hair beginning to grow on tender skin.

In other developments: Your baby's limbs can bend now. His hands are flexed at the wrist and meet over his heart, and his feet may be long enough to meet in front of his body. The outline of his spine is clearly visible through translucent skin, and spinal nerves are beginning to stretch out from his spinal cord. Your baby's forehead temporarily bulges with his developing brain and sits very high on his head, which measures half the length of his body. From crown to rump, he's about 1 1/4 inches long. In the coming weeks, your baby will again double in size — to nearly 3 inches.

So far so good today, only mild nausea, barely even noticeable! I have to pee a lot though. The BIGGEST and most EXCITING update I have is that last night I was able to pick up the baby's heartbeat on the doppler I bought! It was the first time I was able to HEAR it!! The doppler has showed a reading higher then my own heart rate each time I've tried it (about once or twice a week since I got it) but last night I heard the baby!! My face lit up SO huge and I was SOOO excited!! Such a beautiful, beautiful sound!! I could have sat and listened to that ALL night! But I made it brief. I always wonder if those things are noisy to the baby's little ears so I try not to do it that often or for too long. I will check again next Wednesday before our u/s appointment for some extra reassurance before seeing the baby on the u/s screen again. :)

I also had SUPER crazy weird dreams last night!! One part I switched bodies with my son, another part I was at some coliseum thing and the animals were the size of skyscrapers and would stick their giant heads into the stands and bellow and they were FREAKING me out! Then there was a part where I woke up outside on the ground and Johnny Depp was there and we were covered in blown up animal pieces... umm.. yeah, that one was the most disturbing I think... Very odd, very bright, and very active dreams! It was nice to know I had some REM sleep though! I felt much more alert this morning then I have in the past few days.

Now we're getting ready to head out to Ray's on the River for our very nice Admin Professionals lunch out and I'm super excited!! Yummy!! :)

This evening is the OB class which will be good too - I'm sure I'll get some good information. :)

9w6d - Hungry...

The nausea truly seems to be on the way out (knocking on wood and praying baby bean is still very happy and comfy in there!!) So the last two days without a super upset stomach to keep the rumbling at bay I've found myself STARVING! I ate lunch pretty much twice yesterday and then again today - I tried to make them "lighter" lunches so it wouldn't add up TOO much, but still!! That is ridiculous! I'm going to have to find an alternative to all day eating to satisfy the angry rumbling in my stomach!! I can't believe how I can be so sick just a couple days ago to so all about food now! Yikes!!

On a completely different note I am ecstatic to hit our 10 week mark tomorrow and then start the next 1 week count down to our 11 week ultrasound!! Yay!! :D

9w4d - Tired...

We had a relatively quiet weekend but I've been tossing and turning the last few nights and wake up almost as tired as I go to bed!

Yesterday we met Robin at Outback for lunch, and I really enjoyed my food until about 15 minutes after leaving the restaurant I ended up loosing about half of it. :( I was not happy about that, but at least it only happens a couple times a week, not every day!

I am pretty crampy today, not big painful ones, just lots of little twinges. Hopefully its baby just making him/herself comfortable and my uterus growing a little bit. My belly button was really sore yesterday and I could feel my uterus just above my pubic bone which was kind of cool. That was the first time I was SURE I was feeling uterus.

Desserts are being crossed off my able to eat list. I've gotten sick to my stomach several times recently when eating sweets, but on Saturday I had a small brownie at lunch and was bloated and in pain until bed time. That was the last straw for me, if baby wants to eat healthier so be it! :D I can handle that, and if it means avoiding massive stomach pains I am ALL for it!! I've actually lost a couple pounds as of this weekend, back to about the lowest I've been in awhile and I'm still eating a well balanced diet with lots of good fruits, veggies, and protein so that was good news for me. I think it is a lot easier for my body to stay at a healthier weight when I leave the sweets alone. I usually am fairly limited on how much "junk" I can eat anyway because of my gastric bypass, but I am WAY more sensitive right now then I've ever been before. I told my IM I'll be stocking up on baby carrots, strawberries and apples thanks to her little bean's taste preferences! :D

Hopefully it will be a busy week and time will pass quickly, we have our admin lunch out on Thursday at Ray's on the River which will be really nice! I always enjoy those outings! That evening is my OB Class which will be good too, I'm trying to convince Kenneth to come with me. :)

I can't believe I'll be DONE with progesterone after this weekend!! So cool!! :D

9w1d OB Confirmation Appt today!

This morning was my OB Confirmation appointment. I've been a little leery to schedule it prior to our ultrasound yesterday, but once we had that done and saw baby bean looks just PERFECT I called and got in quickly.

I updated my paperwork with them and then went back and gave a urine sample for a pregnancy test, stood on the scale (my FAVORITE part! :p ) and they took my blood pressure (110 / 60) and then I went back to a room and chatted with the nurse for a minute and then waited for Dr. Lee.

Dr. Lee is the one who delivered my surrogate baby in July 2007, I cannot believe its been nearly THREE years since then! Holy heck!! In any event, he didn't remember me but that's ok! :D I explained this is another surrogate pregnancy and gave him the details on our ultrasounds and due date, we also briefly went over my health and pregnancy history (I just love being asked if I'm a smoker or a drinker and if I have a history of STD's - yes I am a GESTATIONAL SURROGATE and have a crappy health history?!!) Ok fine, I know he has to ask, but it still seems silly.

He did a PAP Smear, took a couple cultures to check for STDs and did an internal check and said everything feels right for 9 weeks. So all is well there. I got signed up for the "OB Class" on Thursday the 22nd where the midwives go over the basics, you fill out paperwork and get told about testing options and the hospital, etc. I vaguely remember it from last time; I mostly remember I got a notebook that had pre-registration paperwork for the hospital and some nice "to-do" lists/reminders in it which was helpful.

My "First OB" appointment will be May 13th, right at 13 weeks. It will work out that I'll have bi-weekly appointments all through my first trimester and then they'll start at the OB's office for the 2nd trimester after that May 13th appointment! :)

I am tired and glad it's Friday. Kenneth got home late last night so I ended up doing some chores and staying up a little later then I normally would have which has me feeling extra sleepy this morning. I am glad its almost 1:00 already - it will be time to head home before I know it! Now to stay busy for the afternoon! I will start by hunting down some lunch!! :)

Your pregnancy: 9 weeks and our Ultrasound!

How your baby's growing:
Your new resident is nearly an inch long — about the size of a grape — and weighs just a fraction of an ounce. She's starting to look more and more human. Her essential body parts are accounted for, though they'll go through plenty of fine-tuning in the coming months. Other changes abound: Your baby's heart finishes dividing into four chambers, and the valves start to form — as do her tiny teeth. The embryonic "tail" is completely gone. Your baby's organs, muscles, and nerves are kicking into gear. The external sex organs are there but won't be distinguishable as male or female for another few weeks. Her eyes are fully formed, but her eyelids are fused shut and won't open until 27 weeks. She has tiny earlobes, and her mouth, nose, and nostrils are more distinct. The placenta is developed enough now to take over most of the critical job of producing hormones. Now that your baby's basic physiology is in place, she's poised for rapid weight gain.

I was so amped up for today's appointment! I dreamt about our ultrasound all last night, and they were all GOOD and positive dreams, but it hasn't taken off the edge of nervousness I've had! I was so ready to see baby looking good and healthy and for L&N to get to see him/her too.

9:00 finally rolled around and I met my IPs at the clinic, and they took us back and we got situated and as soon as the u/s tech put the wand in she said "there's the pretty baby"! and I breathed a HUGE sigh of relief!! Baby looked awesome, looked like s/he was taking a nap, lying on their back and waving their little arm buds at us every now and then. We got to see the umbilical cord and see and hear that beautiful heart beating. Still didn't get a measurement, but it sounded nice and strong!

The RE saw us afterwards and is JUST thrilled and says things look really great and he's very happy with everything and thinks our chance of miscarriage is VERY low. He's really thrilled for my IPs!

We are officially released to my OB and I am calling now to set up my first confirmation appointment, and we have one more ultrasound scheduled with RBA for 2 weeks from now - so at 11 weeks on April 29th. Yay! :)

SO glad everything looks so good and can't wait 'til I can pick this little one up on doppler for a little extra reassurance and then to finally feel them moving!! That will be AWESOME!!! :)

8w5d today! Count down to our next ultrasound!

It's Tuesday morning!! Only 48 more hours to go until I'll be back on the table waiting to hear baby bean looks beautiful!! :) I am SO excited and yes nervous again too, but I can't help it. :) I think both my IPs will be there this time which is awesome so I hope this little one is ready to put on a nice show for mommy and daddy!!

I've had several days of feeling just lousy lately! I don't know what it is, or what makes it worse - it just is what it is. I found lemon drops and BBQ corn nuts at Publix yesterday FINALLY (I've been searching at Target, Wal Mart and Kroger and hadn't been able to find either)!! I was so excited! I sucked on lemon drops yesterday afternoon and it helped take the edge off, but then I think when I stopped the sugar kicked in and made me feel cruddy again. Sweets do NOT seem to be agreeing with me at all.

I've also discovered I have a heightened sense to salt!! It's SO weird!! I made this YUMMY ham & bean soup with our easter ham bone and Kent and I had some for dinner last night (Kenneth had other leftovers) and it was SO salty to me but Kent gobbled it up and said it was AWESOME!! So I'm going to try watering it down a little bit next time I have some. The flavor and content of it is SO good - chock full of yummy beans and veggies, it was just salty!

This morning I was so hungry all the way in to work, so when I got here I fixed myself a big bowl of Kix and almond milk and then within a half hour I was feeling really sick, which sometimes happens when I drink dairy milk, but I've never had it happen with almond milk. That was VERY odd. But I went and laid down for a little while until my stomach started feeling better. I almost always feel better as soon as I lay down, which is good - just wish I could stay laying down more often! :D

It's only Tuesday AM and I'm already longing for Friday evening and Saturday morning sleeping in!! We have the March for Babies this weekend, so I'm going to be TIRED after that!

Your pregnancy: 8 weeks

Happy 8 weeks!! Yay!! :) I don't know why, but 8 weeks is a big one, and then 12 weeks will be a big one too. I am excited we are now 1 week closer to our next ultrasound and sneak peek at the baby bean as well!

I am starving this morning and need to find some good breakfast soon. I had a banana on the way in, but that isn't cutting it. I did SO good with eating yesterday, had a huge thing of fresh strawberries for breakfast, a pasta bowl for lunch and a very yummy big salad for dinner. I snacked in between, but my calorie count was really good and I was very proud of myself. So, needless to say when I stepped on the scale and it was HIGHER than yesterday I was less than pleased. I'm trying not to worry too much yet about the scale as long as I'm eating a good, balanced diet, but its irritating to be so good and have the scale go up still! I think the meds are probably contributing to it a lot, since the scale seems to be jumping up ever since I started the progesterone suppositories. I think I have about one more month on these.

I am verrrry tired this morning. I seriously wanted to take a nap the minute I walked in the door at work, I'm thinking come lunch time I will definitely take one! I'm so sleepy, and I slept good last night! I didn't even wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, I slept through! Sigh, oh well, I guess I just get run down by the end of the work week and need some extra rest.

I started looking at BabyBeat Dopplers again today!! I didn't rent one 'til 14 weeks last time, but I'm seriously thinking about getting this one now... I want to check with my IM and see what she thinks first though, since she might have a different thought on them! :)

How your baby's growing:
New this week: Webbed fingers and toes are poking out from your baby's hands and feet, his eyelids practically cover his eyes, breathing tubes extend from his throat to the branches of his developing lungs, and his "tail" is just about gone. In his brain, nerve cells are branching out to connect with one another, forming primitive neural pathways. You may be daydreaming about your baby as one sex or the other, but the external genitals still haven't developed enough to reveal whether you're having a boy or a girl. Either way, your baby — about the size of a kidney bean — is constantly moving and shifting, though you still can't feel it.

Grow sweet little kidney bean baby, grow! :) Hope you're happy and healthy in there - can't wait to see you again next week!

7w6d - Last Day of Estrace! :)

I have two more estrace tablets to take and then I'm done!! I have to do a blood draw on Friday AM to make sure my levels are ok, but I might really be DONE with one of my meds!! YAY!!

The progesterone suppositories are making me a little nervous since you get so much "leakage" after insertion during the day and they are messy and I keep wondering if I'm absorbing enough to have good levels! I think I am going to start using Instead Cups in the AM to make sure the suppository stays where it should be and has plenty of time to absorb - hopefully that will ease my mind a little.

I had a very small episode of spotting yesterday mid-day and it freaked me out a little, but it was very small and it never came back (knock on wood) so I'm hoping it was just one of those isolated "things" and it doesn't mean anything. I KNOW spotting is common in IVF, and I also know I've just switched to suppositories and was told by the nurses spotting is very common on them, but it's really not that reassuring!!

This week feels like its going slowly... not sure why - maybe because Kent is staying with his Great Grandmother so our routine is all wonky! I miss him, but its nice to have some extra quiet time in the evenings and not be so rushed in the morning to make sure he's taking care of everything he has to do and get myself ready too.

Last night Kenneth and I went to dinner with Vicki at Texas Roadhouse. YUMMY!! I LOVE their food. I think I could happily eat there every week. :) I got a house salad with ranch and ate 3 of their rolls with cinnamon butter. Their rolls (well, really the butter) is amazing!! Soooo good!! And totally hit the spot. I felt queasy in the car ride home, but that was about it, other than that it settled ok. :)

And now its time for some yummy lunch!! I'm going to heat up a Pad Thai noodle bowl and hope the baby thinks it tastes good! :)

7w5d - Feeling Yucky

Yesterday, and it seems like I'm getting a repeat today, I have been feeling just icky. I've felt ok when I wake up energy wise, but it seems like from the minute my feet hit the floor I am queasy. I was hoping maybe it was just a bad day yesterday but today has been just as bad so far.

Nothing sounds good, and I haven't been that hungry but I tried to eat my 3 meals yesterday and spent a good 30 minutes after eating lunch trying to convince my stomach to let it stay down. I am almost positive at this point if I hadn't had gastric bypass surgery all those years ago I would definitely be throwing up a LOT at this point, but since my stomach pouch is small and the food doesn't stay in there long, it just makes me feel sick but can't really come back up. (TMI? Sorry!! :D )

Last night I ran a couple errands then went home and plopped on the couch. It is so nice and warm now - I threw windows open and turned on the attic fan and rested a little until Kenneth got back too. We warmed up leftovers for dinner, I just nibbled off his plate a little and ate a handful of Ritz crackers which seemed to settle ok.

This morning I have eaten a banana over an hour ago and it is still making me want to throw up. I guess I should sip some water or gingerale. I am not "miserable" yet, and am glad I can still keep my food down, but I am definitely feeling very lousy and sick these past couple days. In many ways it is reassuring to think the baby must be doing great if I continue to have days that are worse then others and I just hold onto that reassurance instead of focusing on feeling poorly.

I am very much looking forward to tomorrow being my last day on Estrogen and then our 8 week mark on Thursday! That is exciting!! Then the one week count down to our next ultrasound and then getting released!! So many big things happening in the next couple weeks! I can't wait!

7w4d - Happy Easter! :)

What a fun and busy weekend it was! I took Friday off, did some work from home in the morning and then we got ready to head out and ran some errands. We had lunch at Ted's Montana Grill and walked around The Avenues a little and came back in the early afternoon and I honestly can't remember what else happened on Friday afternoon/evening! :)

Saturday was another busy day - beautiful weather! We drove up to Jasper in the morning to look at a Bronco Kenneth was interested in, stopped in and visited his parent's since we were so close by, grabbed lunch around 1:00 and headed home. I was feeling pretty lousy, we didn't get breakfast until 11:00 (we'd intended to get Chick Fil A but got a late start, and they weren't serving breakfast anymore when we got there, so we went and got donuts instead. Nothing but sugar on an empty, unhappy, prego stomach didn't go over so well). Eventually we were on our way home and we picked up our ham for Easter on the way back and enjoyed our evening. Kenneth and I served at church for the 5:00 service, watching one of the 2 year old rooms. We only had 4 kiddos, so it was a quiet hour, and fun! :) We attended the 7:00 service afterwards.

On Sunday we served again at the 9:00 service and had 10 girls, most of who were part of the "regular" crew we usually have. They had a good time, and it was a fun morning. I had a really hard time getting going that morning. I hadn't slept well the night before and was feeling really lousy. But I am glad I got up and that we went.

I put Kent's Easter Basket out in the morning before he came out, but I didn't really get to see him enjoy that much, since we went straight to church then came back and made our lunch (ham, green bean casserole, macaroni and cheese and a "Honey Bunny" my IM had given me from Great Harvest - super cute and their bread is SOOO YUMMY)! :) It was a great lunch! I went and layed down as soon as we were done eating. The boys cleaned up and Kenneth ran Kent over to his grandmother's, where Kent will be spending most of Spring Break.

When Kenneth got back, we left the house around 2:30 and headed back to Jasper to pick up the truck (they guy we bought it from needed time to go over and get the top put back on it, which was at his friend's house). We drove that home, did a little grocery shopping (I needed more FRUIT!!!) and then had a laid back evening. We watched "Get Smart" from Netflix - super cute movie! :D

The weekend sure has flown by!! I am feeling ok today, not great though. My stomach has been uneasy all morning. I discovered last night I had no saltines in the house when I went to eat some and the ones we have are old... Yucky! It's about lunch time and I'm debating between noodles and oatmeal. I think I need something gentle today!

Hopefully by this evening my stomach will let me eat a real meal so I can enjoy Easter leftovers! Yummy! :)

Your pregnancy: 7 weeks

Thought this needed its own post!! :)

How your baby's growing:
The big news this week: Hands and feet are emerging from developing arms and legs — although they look more like paddles at this point than the tiny, pudgy extremities you're daydreaming about holding and tickling. Technically, your baby is still considered an embryo and has something of a small tail, which is an extension of her tailbone. The tail will disappear within a few weeks, but that's the only thing getting smaller. Your baby has doubled in size since last week and now measures half an inch long, about the size of a blueberry.

If you could see inside your womb, you'd spot eyelid folds partially covering her peepers, which already have some color, as well as the tip of her nose and tiny veins beneath parchment-thin skin. Both hemispheres of your baby's brain are growing, and her liver is churning out red blood cells until her bone marrow forms and takes over this role. She also has an appendix and a pancreas, which will eventually produce the hormone insulin to aid in digestion. A loop in your baby's growing intestines is bulging into her umbilical cord, which now has distinct blood vessels to carry oxygen and nutrients to and from her tiny body.

Grow baby blueberry, grow!!! :D

Drumroll please....

Ultrasound was AWESOME!!! We have one sweet little "easter egg" baking and looking just perfect! Baby measured right on track at exactly 7w0d and had a nice steady heart rate (the ultrasound tech didn't tell us the bpm, just said it was nice and steady and over 100bpm).

L was with me and got to see everything on the screen and I got to see some when the u/s tech turned it towards my head so I could see the heartbeat and see her taking some of the measurements. Listening to the BEAUTIFUL little early heartbeat was precious!! Love that sound! :)

It was a great, great ultrasound and I am all smiles! Meeting with the RE after was great too - he is SO excited for my IPs. He has been anxious about their chances of success and you can tell he really cares and is really thrilled for them! Their whole staff is so awesome and very caring.

We got our next u/s scheduled for Thursday 4/15 at 9:00 am, and my meds protocol changes now too. Tonight is my last PIO injection and I switch over to progesterone suppositories tomorrow (am/pm). I stay on estrace through the 7th then stop and go in on the 9th for labwork to see how my levels look and see if I need to stay on it a little longer. I'll only be 8 weeks at that point, seems a little early, but maybe there is more concern with the progesterone levels then estrogen levels? Not really sure!

I learned something new today too! L and I were talking about the yolk sac and the placenta and what does what at what point so I searched it and discovered:
The yolk sac is not part of the placenta (which forms at around 11 weeks gestation). As the embryo develops, the single-layer ectoderm differentiates into a two layered plate. Endodermal cells appear beneath the ectoderm on the side toward the center of the blastocele. The endoderm forms the roof of the yok sac in the same way that the ectodermal disk forms the floor of the amnionic sac. The rest of the yolk sac wall consists of mesoblast. The yolk sac is never functional and does not grow larger than 1-1.5cm in diameter. The fluid within the yok sac soon disappears and the sac atrophies during the fourth month of pregnancy. It persists as a barely recognizable fibrous strand within the umbilical cord.

So there you have it!! That is what I learned today. It has nothing to do with the placenta - it's just food until the placenta forms and takes over.

Ok, back to reality for the rest of the day!
